Rückblickend sieht McMurray ihn fast als zentrales Bindeglied der letzten zehn Jahre und möglicherweise als Wegweiser für die musikalische Richtung von Ash in den kommenden Jahren: „Is that a lot of pressure for one song to bear? Maybe, but it straddles the two sides of this band we've been grappling with over the last decade and holds the past and future effortlessly in its orbit”.

Mit Give Me Back My World melden sich Ash kraftvoll zurück – die neue Single war der erste Vorbote ihres aktuellen Studioalbums Ad Astra. Die nordirische Band beweist mit der Veröffentlichung einmal mehr ihre ungebrochene Energie, kreative Neugier – und ihren festen Glauben an die Kraft des Gitarrenpops.

Der Song entstand im Jahr 2020 – mitten in einer Zeit kollektiver Unsicherheit – und thematisiert genau dieses Gefühl von Kontrollverlust, das damals viele Menschen durchlebten. Sänger und Gitarrist Tim Wheeler beschreibt den Track als Reaktion auf eine Welt, die scheinbar aus den Fugen geraten ist: „If I told you this song dates back to 2020 you'd hardly need a degree from the school of Marple, Holmes and Poirot to figure out what it's getting at. And although those sentiments may be just a memory from the stand point of 2025, the song's heart still feels relevant. In a time of chaos, disruption and angst there's still a beautiful world out there and it's worth fighting for.”

Wheeler beschreibt das zentrale Motiv als eine emotionale Momentaufnahme: „Have you ever had one of those moments where you feel the rug has been pulled from under you? Everything you took for granted goes up in smoke and you are no longer in control, and you can only look back in hindsight at a life that's no longer yours? I think we've all had those moments. I think you can all relate to this song. But luckily for you it a) rails against this loss of control and b) is a total banger. So, fire it up and rage with us against the dying of the light.”
