Astrel K ist das Soloprojekt des in Stockholm lebenden britischen Exilanten Rhys Edwards. Diejenigen, die mit Edwards‘ Arbeit bereits vertraut sind, werden ihn wahrscheinlich als Frontmann der kultisch großartigen ULRIKA SPACEK kennen, und da er bei beiden Projekten als Hauptsongwriter fungiert, finden sich viele der gleichen Merkmale seines kathartischen, elliptischen Songwritings auch bei Astrel K.

Dennoch fühlt sich The Foreign Department – sein aktuelles Album – wie eine Art Rubikon-Moment an, und wie das Album, auf das Edwards unbewusst sein ganzes kreatives Leben lang hingearbeitet hat.

R U A Literal Child? is a fun and chaotic album closer for me, a song celebrating imagination over literalism. It’s the sonic equivalent of a painter meticulously working away at a collection, losing their mind on individual details, only to end by eventually throwing all the paint they have on to the canvas. I wanted something quite child-like and for the video I collaborated with Simon Gustafsson, making a series of images out of stop motion illustrations and crayon scribbles. It’s a celebration of a stream-of-consciousness over the over-designed.
