Deserta – I’m So Tired

Deserta, das in LA ansässige Soloprojekt von Matthew Doty, veröffentlichte schon vor ein paar Wochen die neue Single I’m So Tired, die mit der Ankündigung seines zweiten Albums Every Moment, Everything You Need einherging, das heute über Felte erscheint. Die neue Single folgt auf den von KEXP und FLOOD veröffentlichten Track Lost In The Weight, der Dotys erste neue Musik seit seinem Debüt Black Aura My Sun aus dem Jahr 2020 darstellt, das Fans unter anderem bei NPR und KEXP fand.

Abgemischt von David Fridmann, produziert von Chris Coady und mit einem Schlagzeug von James McAliser, bringt die Rückkehr von Deserta eine Steigerung seiner Herangehensweise an das Genre mit sich windenden Gitarren und gigantischen Klanglandschaften. I’m So Tired ist eine weitere gelungene Demonstration von Dotys Vorliebe für wogende Gitarren, die in die gleiche Richtung wie SLOWDIVE, RIDE und MOGWAI gehen.

Doty über die neue Single I’m So Tired: „This song started out as a completely different song, a little more Echo & The Bunnymen sans the soaring vocals sounding. I didn’t feel like it was fitting in with the rest of the songs and I remember it taking quite a few tries to figure out what needed to change, to the point I would have scrapped it had the drums not already been tracked and sounding good. I also remember when it came together – my wife had just gone to work and usually by that time our son would be up and about. This day he happened to sleep in and I took advantage of it. I had to work fast so I simultaneously played a Moog bass line with my left hand and a Mellotron bell/flute combo with the right. When that second of the three chords played I knew that was the sound. I modified the melody from the first version which then became the chorus vocal melody and a lead guitar line, slapped an arpeggiated synth on there, mumbled some bullshit and there it is. A song.“

In seiner Zeit als Mitglied der in Philadelphia ansässigen Post-Rock-Gruppe SAXON SHORE veröffentlichte er fünf Alben und eine EP und gründete die Band mit seinem ehemaligen Bandkollegen Josh Tillman aka FATHER JOHN MISTY. Danach gründete Doty die MIDNIGHT FACES, die von SPIN, The AV Club, Consequence, VICE und anderen bejubelt wurde, bevor er 2020 Solomaterial unter dem Namen Deserta veröffentlichte.
