Die australischen Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever haben mit Tidal River einen neuen Song aus ihrem aktuellen Album Endless Rooms veröffentlicht.

Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever gehören zu den australischen Bands, die es wagen, die eindrucksvollen Landschaften des Landes mit der urbanen Romantik, den Leidenschaften und der Politik seiner Charaktere zu verbinden. Das treibende Tidal River ist in dieser Richtung angesiedelt, da es das Schreckgespenst Australien als „glückliches Land“ beschwört – und die Selbstgefälligkeit und Ignoranz, die es inspiriert: „Jetski over the pale reef / chase the pill for some relief / as long as you don’t point out / what’s underneath your feet.” Das dazugehörige Video wurde von Nick Mckk gedreht, der häufig mit der Band zusammenarbeitet.

Die Band erklärt dazu: „Tidal River is a little snapshot of living in a place at a time when it feels like there is no-one at the wheel. If there were a complacency Olympics, Australia would win gold by a mile. In the ‘lucky country’, the luckiest ones jealously guard their fortune, as if it will disappear if they share it around. There is so much potential to do better, but it sometimes seems like progress is two steps forward, two steps back. Tidal River is located in what Europeans named Wilsons Promontory, where the river meets the ocean. It has great significance for the Gunai/Kurnai and Boonwurrung peoples, who call it Yiruk and Wamoon respectively. No matter the struggles and politics that go on, the river keeps churning into the sea.”

Die Band – bestehend aus Fran Keaney, Joe White, Marcel Tussie und den Brüdern Tom und Joe Russo – kehrt nach dem 2020 erschienenen Album Sideways To New Italy mit ihrem bisher natürlichsten und umfangreichsten Album zurück, das ein Zeugnis für den kollaborativen Geist und die Live-Power von Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever darstellt. In ihren eigenen Worten ist Endless Rooms nun genau die Band, die das tut, was sie am besten kann: „chasing down songs in a room together.“
